Graham Guyton never had a chance to reach 100 years old. Instead, he sacrificed his life for our freedom.

Last year I was not able to write a profile everyday from September to November because I was studying for the Certified Financial Planner test (I passed!). I feel my project to honor one U.S. serviceman for each day of the war would be incomplete if I left them off. As I have time, I am going back and adding profiles for the days I missed.

Graham Glenn Guyton was born on October 1, 1918 in Charleston, South Carolina. His parents John and Julia were also both born in South Carolina. His father probably died by 1920, because his mother had remarried with a last name of Cockerill. Graham had two younger half-brothers and five younger half-sisters. By 1940 he had graduated from Clemson University. He worked at textile company and then a powder company.

He enlisted in the army in February 1942. After one year in the infantry he volunteered for the Army Air Forces and was got his wings in May 1943. He was sent to England in November and became a first lieutenant and pilot in the 715th Bombardment Squadron, 448th Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force, which was equipped with B-24 Liberators.

The 448th BG starting flying combat missions on December 22, 1943. His plane (41-29234) was shot down on January 5, 1944. He was first reported as missing in action but word finally got back to his family that he died on that day.

His grave is at Sumter Cemetery in Sumter, South Carolina.

Thank you Lt. Guyton for your sacrifice. Let's Earn It for Graham.
