Walter Rybicki never had a chance to reach 100 years old today. Instead, he sacrificed his life for our freedom.

He was born on September 9, 1919 in Michigan. His parents Albert and Michalina were both born in Poland. His father worked as an automotive factory laborer. Walter had three older brothers and a younger sister.

He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in May 1942 and became a corporal in the Headquarter Squadron, 14th Marine Regiment which was an artillery unit. Cpl. Rybicki was killed on February 6, 1944 in New Britain. I was not able to find additional details. The 14th MR was most likely in the Marianas Islands at this time.

His grave is at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan.

Thank you Cpl. Rybicki for your sacrifice. Let's Earn It for Walter.

Lawrence Brown, 82nd Airborne, was born one year earlier on the same date. You can read about Lawrence here.
