A Tragedy of D-Day Proportions

The focus of WW2 Fallen 100 is to draw attention to the World War 2 fallen who lost their lives fighting for our country. Each day I profile one of the fallen on their 100th birthday.

The tragic attack in Las Vegas on Sunday showed that the spirit and heroism of the fallen is not lost. Many people stayed in harm's way to help people escape.

As a student of history, I couldn't help but recognize how murderous the attack was.

On D-Day June 6, 1944 21,000 troops from the 4th Infantry Division landed on Utah Beach. During that day they sustained 197 casualties killed and wounded facing 12,000 enemy troops. (Omaha Beach losses were much worse.) By comparison 22,000 people saw nearly 600 casualties in less than 15 minutes, all from one shooter. Unbelievable.

Pray for the wounded and give thanks to the fallen.
