Clyde N. Gibson never had a chance to reach 102 years old tomorrow. Instead, he sacrificed his life for our freedom.

When I started this project two years ago, my rookie research skills resulted in me not finding one of the fallen born on January 15, 1917. Now that I have more experience, I was able to find someone for this date I passed over. Since my goals is to do a profile for each day until the 75th anniversary of the end of WW2 (September 2, 2020), I have decided to go back and add the dates I missed.

Clyde was born on January 15, 1917 in Alabama. His parents James and Lillian were also both born in Alabama. His father worked as a farmer and died in 1935. Clyde had two older brothers, one older sister, two younger sisters, and one younger brother. By 1940 Clyde had completed four years of high school and was working as a clerk.

He enlisted in the army on June 17, 1941. At some point after that he volunteered for the Army Air Forces. He was trained as a bombardier and became a second lieutenant in the 9th Bombardment Squadron, 7th Bombardment Group, 10th Air Force that was equipped with B-24 Liberators. The 7th BG was sent to India in March 1942 and flew bombing missions to Burma.

After getting a bombing mission assignment, Lt. Gibson's B-24 crashed on takeoff from Pandaveswar Airbase on November 25, 1943. All onboard were killed.

His grave is at Shepherd Cemetery in Fayette County, Alabama.

Thank you Lt. Gibson for your sacrifice. Let's Earn It for Clyde.
