Robert Anderson Fenn never had a chance to reach 100 years old today. Instead, he sacrificed his life for our freedom.

He was born on June 13, 1919 in Kokomo, Indiana. His mother Maude was also born in Indiana, as was his father, but I don't have other information about him. Robert and his mother lived with her parents in 1920. By 1930 his mother was married to someone other than Robert's father. Robert was not living with his mother when the 1930 census was taken, but by the 1940's census he was -- under the name Robert Plummer, his step-father's surname. Robert had one younger step-sister. He completed three years of high school and found work with US Rubber Company.

He was drafted into the army on January 31, 1941, going back to the name Robert Fenn, and became a private in Company D, 10th Tank Battalion, 5th Armored Division.

The 5th Armored arrived on Utah Beach on July 24, 1944. It was sent into combat on August 2 and drove south to Vitre. It seized Le Mans on August 8. Pvt. Fenn was killed in action on August 16, 1944 when the 5th Armored captured the Eure River Line at Dreux. On that day the 5th Armored was up against enemy tanks and even rare Luftwaffe attacks.

His grave is at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Thank you Pvt. Fenn for your sacrifice. Let's Earn It for Robert.

Last year on this date I profiled Alexander Bzowey and his brother-in-law Edward Mihala. You can read about Alexander here.
