Robert H. Hart never had a chance to reach 100 years old today. Instead, he sacrificed his life for our freedom.

He was born on June 1, 1919 in Iowa. His parents Charles and Ella were also both born in Iowa. His father worked as an auctioneer. Robert had one older brother. By 1940 Robert had completed four years of high school. He worked as a barber and auctioneer while living with his parents.

He was drafted into the army in April 1942. He became a Tech 5 in Company E, 2nd Battalion, 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division. The 90th ID arrived in England in April 1944 and immediately began training for the invasion of France. It was in action in Normandy the day after D-Day. It fought through Normandy and across France as part of General Patton's 3rd Army.

Cpl. Hart was killed on September 5, 1944 in a jeep collision in Rheims.

His grave is at Garfield Township Cemetery in Webb, Iowa.

Thank you Cpl. Hart for your sacrifice. Let's Earn It for Robert.

Last year on this date I profiled Medal of Honor hero Kazuo Otani, 442nd Infantry Regiment. You can read about Kazuo here.
